Flaming Gorge Fishing

October 3, 2010                          Dutch John , UT

Today started with a 6 a.m. wake up, shower and preparation for a day of fishing.  Problem one.  I forgot to pack any pants including my fishing pants.  So, I fished in my jeans.  Not to bad except that it was 80 degrees.  The fishing starts at the base of the damn.  This is called a tailwater.  We put the boat in the water and begin a 7.2 mile float down the river.  Here is the start point.

No sooner than we entered the water I caught three small fish.  Looked like the day was starting out just fine.
A little while later I caught two more rainbow's about so...

That would be the last trout brought to hand this day.  However, a massive battle was waged with a massive White fish later on in the day,, but we don't count them.  Left the water at 4:30.  There were only 4 other boats on the water, and apparently I seemed to have had the most luck.  The fishing according to my guide David has been quite poor for several weeks now, for no known reason.  One thing I learned today was that the sage is in full bloom and I am allergic to it.  I wonder if either Lewis or Clark had allergies.
Tomorrow it is on t0 Mt. Rushmore.
