October 1, 2010 Winnemucca Inn, Winnemucca, NV
Well after a 6 hour start delay I left Oakland at noon. Of course no trip back east to the real west can begin without the obligatory stop at Cabella's.
If you do not know of Cabella's, and even Phyllis does, check it out. I picked up a pair of hopefully non-leaking waders for fishing and rejoined the road warriors. However, one more thing about Cabella's. Or maybe it is the great state of Nevada. But at Cabella's the lion sleeps with the lamb. The animals are so well trained that even when barely caged they remain calm and still so that we tourists can take their pictures.
Well enough of this. I am about nine hours away from my first real destination, the Green River in Flaming Gorge, Utah. I have fished here before, in rain and snow, but Sunday appears to be a good day to fish. From there it is on to Mount Rushmore. This drive from Oakland to the Green River can only be described as monotonous. Thank god for XM Radio and Fox News. Tomorrow the boredom continues with the highlights being the Bonneville Salt flats, the Great Salt Lake, trying to guess which mountain near Salt Lake City the cave that holds the Golden Tablets is located in and of course the Temple majestic itself.
Having only had three hours sleep last night I will go to sleep and leave you with one more image from Cabella's. It is what makes me feel right at home. You know you have landed when the parking lot is filled with SUV's and pick up trucks. Hey what the heck is that Mini Cooper doing there!
By for now.
Oops, How did that get in here? Hi Ruby Ann.
